The work creates a viewing environment from a timber railway carriage and a three-channel video installation. In its presentation at Hong-gah Museum, viewers sit inside the constructed carriage. Through the windows on one side, they see the actual Guandu Plain; on the other, moving images present historical landscapes along a journey. The view outside and the filmed journey unfold simultaneously, turning the act of watching into a ride across different times and spaces.
The images follow an elderly couple travelling by train, placing viewers in the position of a third party encountering events inside the carriage. Constructed sets, performance, and multiple viewpoints bring parallel times and spaces together in the exhibition. The visible traces of construction also continually remind viewers of how this journey has been made. Beginning with the experience of watching while in motion, the work allows histories not personally lived to reappear through fragments, distance, and imagination, connecting them with bodily experience in the present.
